The Counseling Center remains open to serve the UA community with a number of changes to accommodate UA’s current status of functioning under limited business operations. Below you will find a list of current services, instructions for existing clients, and instructions for faculty and staff. Counseling Center Services

Individual Counseling Services

We are taking new therapy clients. If you are a current student at UA and reside in the state of Alabama, you may be eligible for services. For students out of state for the summer, we can assist with referral options. Please call 205-348-3863 to speak with counselor about your options. The office will be open to phone calls Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. through 5 p.m.

Group Counseling Services

Group Services are finished for the academic year and will resume at the start of the fall semester.

Outreach Services

If you have outreach needs at this time, please call 205-348-3863 and ask to speak with a counselor or visit our program request form to request outreach services. Each request will be evaluated for feasibility on a case by case basis.

Consultation Services

For faculty, staff, students and parents, we are available for telephone consultations. Please call 205-348-3863 and ask to speak with a counselor if you have questions, concerns, or are in need of advice.

Crisis and Urgent Consultation Services

If you are in crisis or are experiencing an emergency, please call 205-348-3863 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. through 5 p.m., to speak with a counselor immediately. Outside these hours, please contact UAPD at 205-348-5454 and ask to speak with the on-call counselor.

Other Resources for Students

  • Therapy Assisted Online (TAO) Self Help: This is a free web and app-based online counseling resource for UA students. Support and resources for resiliency, stress management, depression, anxiety, mindfulness, recovery support, and more. Enroll with UA email and password. Please visit our counseling resources and follow the link for TAO Self Help.
  • Free mental health screenings: This is a free web-based screening tool that helps students answer questions about their health and wellbeing and get feedback about their functioning. You will not be asked for any identifying information and your responses will be anonymous. The screenings are also available in Spanish.
